* ¿Qué tan importante es el polo en su vida?
Extremadamente, el polo representa para mí un estilo de vida. Mi amistad con todos los profesionales del deporte y los petiseros, poder ver los caballos todos los días, participar de los torneos, el asado en casa cada semana luego de las prácticas, todo forma el día a día en mi vida y es parte de la vida de toda la familia Craven que lo abraza y ama.
* ¿Cuándo y cómo conoció a Ricardo Furno?
Fue una coincidencia y pura buena fortuna ya que cerca de nuestra casa había un polo club que ofrecía lecciones y una tarde dos profesionales estaban dictándolas y tomé una clase con Ricky, la cual fue excelente y luego Ricardo se comprometió a colaborar conmigo y velar por todos mis requerimientos para poder jugar y así lo ha hecho desde ese momento con total profesionalismo.
* ¿Por qué eligió a Ricardo como el jugador profesional para su equipo?
Es simple, es un excelente jugador y gran amigo. Pienso que no hay mejores razones para elegirlo.
* ¿Qué piensa usted a cerca de los petiseros argentinos y por qué prefiere uno de ellos para el trabajo con los caballos de polo?
Nosotros tenemos 3 caballos de caza para el invierno y 8 de polo para el verano, pero están en lugares diferentes ya que las disciplinas son realmente distintas, por lo tanto es muy importante que se mantenga distancia entre unos y otros sectores. Dejando claro que la relación laboral y de amistad entre los encargados de los caballos en cada área es excelente y se estrechan los lazos durante el verano, debido a la convivencia entre ambos.
Para nosotros los petiseros argentinos tienen una empatía especial por el polo que no se encuentra entre los petiseros ingleses y lo mismo se puede decir de los ingleses y la casa del zorro en relación a los argentinos.
* ¿Por qué eligió a “Las Marías” para su equipo?
Primero, los nombres propuestos por mis amigos de Buenos Aires, eran totalmente inaceptables.
Segundo, es el nombre del establecimiento de Ricky en Santa Fe, por lo que le daba un sentido muy fraternal.
Tercero, tuvimos un logo de inmediato, las tres estrellas del Cinturón de Orión. Es muy divertido ver el cielo en la noche y poder ver las 3 Marías desde mi casa en Inglaterra.
* ¿Qué siente cuando juega con su hija Hen y su hijo Angus?
Me siento muy privilegiado y orgulloso. No creo que en mi país haya muchos padres que tengan la oportunidad de jugar este fantástico deporte con sus hijos y verlos crecer e ir viento en popa en el progreso de sus habilidades y aptitudes.
También quiero destacar especialmente a mi hermosa esposa y madre de mis hijos, Sarah, ya que sin su apoyo y devoción nada sería posible.
* ¿Qué piensa con respecto al polo en Inglaterra y en Argentina?
Sinceramente no me importa donde juego, sólo amo jugar.
* ¿Cuán frecuente son sus visitas a la Argentina? ¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de nuestro país?
Voy a la Argentina, tantas veces como puedo, tal vez seis veces o más en el año. Amo la gente; la forma de vida de los argentinos, desde todo punto de vista; la carne y por supuesto la “Quilmes” y el vino tinto; sin mencionar el Polo.
Mi esposa cree que yo he sido porteño en una vida anterior y estoy totalmente de acuerdo con ella.
* ¿Qué es lo más importante cuando juega Polo?
El Polo es un estilo de vida y como tal abarca a todos los aspectos que la componen y nos da lecciones que transmitimos o aplicamos en diferentes momentos.
Considero que si no tenemos alegría al jugar, ya sea ganando o perdiendo, hay algo que está mal. La felicidad es ver a todos los componentes de “Las Marías” unidos y culminando los juegos maravillosamente, ya que cada parte es tan importante como la siguiente y cada uno lo entiende así, valora y respeta la labor del otro.
Somos un gran equipo.
* ¿Cuántos torneos ha jugado este año y cuántos ha ganado?
No puedo decirte qué cantidad de torneos he jugado esta temporada, pero sí sobresalen dos que han dejado increíbles momentos vividos. Hemos ganado dos competencias de 8 goles, el primero en Emsworth, Ascot y recientemente el PSI tournament*, en Cowdray Park, que ha sido el pináculo de mi carrera, hasta ahora…
* ¿Cuáles son sus expectativas para el future con respecto al polo en Inglaterra?
Creo que en el medio y bajo hándicap el futuro se muestra muy positivo, el polo se ha vuelto más accesible para mucha personas y eso es totalmente positivo, ya que incrementa las posibilidades de trabajo, la competitividad, el nivel de juego, etc.
* James por James: Soy un hombre muy feliz, he logrado equilibrar el trabajo con mis ambiciones deportivas, realmente trabajo para vivir y no vivo para trabajar. Toda la familia está unida en la aventura del polo, eso hace que las experiencias sean compartidas y se forjen amistades para toda la vida alrededor del mundo, especialmente en Argentina.
